About Us
Neighbors in Need (NIN) is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides financial assistance to individuals and families within the Belmont, Gilford, Laconia, Meredith, and Tilton areas of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
This financial assistance is dispersed through local non-profit agencies, organizations, and churches, who conduct interviews with those seeking assistance to verify concrete need, and then requests funding on their behalf. NIN is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors with no paid employees, and approximately 99% of the donations and other revenues are for direct assistance.
Since its inception, NIN has provided over $1 million in assistance and loans within the Lakes Region.

Neighbors in Need provides support to families and single individuals who live in Belmont, Gilford, Laconia, Meredith, and Tilton. Referrals for assistance are considered for households once every two years.

NIN aids in a wide variety of financial assistance, such as: rent/mortgage payments, utilities and/or heating bills, childcare expenditures, car repair costs/incidentals, and healthcare expenses (medical and/or dental not covered by public or private insurances).
NIN does not supplant other types of assistance, such as state and local welfare or other private agency programs. NIN assistance is intended to be temporary, immediate, and complementary to these other sources of assistance.

NIN collaborates with other local non-profits and churches to offer financial assistance to families and individuals who may have a concrete need.
Individuals and families should work with a community partner to complete and submit a referral form to request assistance from NIN.
Assistance is generally available once per household every two years.

Why We Help
Why We Help
According to a recent survey, approximately 57% of Americans are living paycheck. As a result, more than half of us are one crisis away from homelessness. Neighbors in Need, with support from our community, seek to help families avoid homelessness and other adverse outcomes by mitigating the effects of a crisis.
Here are some examples of ways that we've helped:
A single mother with a five year old child who needed help getting her car back on the road to get to and from the grocery store and medical appointments
A young couple with a four year old child who fell behind on rent and needed support to avoid eviction while they worked toward long-term stability
A single mother with two children who needed help with a security deposit. This was her children's first apartment!
A grandparent raising three grand children who needed help with dental costs.
A single man on SSI who needed help with his electric bill to avoid disconnect
A recently released inmate who needed help buying a cell phone and minutes so that he could stay connected with recovery and other community supports
